Wayside Organics was started by Bart Ives in 1989, following in his father Peter’s footsteps. Peter and his wife Jane were long established growers sending flowers, vegetables & eggs to wholesalers all over the south of England & London. Many an early morning run to Covent Garden Market was made! Bart studied Philosophy & Medieval Literature in London before a newspaper article on herb growing spurred him to return to the family business. He traded for many years at Britain’s first wholly organic market at Old Spitalfields and still does the occasional farmers’ market to this day. Bart, his partner Debbie and the whole family have very much a hands-on role in the business.
The business is based in the village of Oving, at the base of the South Downs in West Sussex and specialises in salad crops, soft & top fruit and a wide range of vegetables all grown to the standards set down by the Soil Association.
